teen leadership opportunities
2025 Applications are live!
At Camp Namanu, we offer two specialty teen programs for campers looking to build new leadership skills. Both programs require applications and acceptance before registration.
Gears: Grades 10-12
- November 18th, 2024 – Application Due by 5:00 PM to the Namanu Registrar [email protected]
- November 22nd, 2024 – Priority applicants will be notified of acceptance or regrets via email
- November 25th – May 16th 2025 – If space is still available we will offer spots to late applicants.
This program is for high school-aged campers who want to get more involved in camp by giving back. Gears campers help to keep the dining hall running smoothly by leading meals with the Gears staff, making announcements, sharing dietary information, leading kitchen patrol with other units and having fun working as a team. Participants can expect to work hard and play hard while still experiencing the magic of camp.
Counselor-in-Training (CIT): Grades 11-12
- November 18th, 2024 – Application Due by 5:00 PM to the Namanu Registrar [email protected]
- December 2nd – 6th, 2024 – Individual Virtual Interviews
- December 11th, 2024 – Notify Applicants
Camp Namanu’s two-year Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program provides campers the opportunity to begin building their youth development skills. CITs follow a dynamic leadership curriculum designed to teach them about child development, behavior management, communication, decision-making and leadership. These young leaders receive mentoring, weekly feedback, gain meaningful real-life experiences, and are empowered to make and live by their own good decisions.
The program curriculum is split between two summers:
- First Year CITs – Program participants attend sessions 5, 6, and 7.
- Second Year CITs – Program participants attend sessions 1, 2, 3, & 4. A program graduation ceremony will be held at the end of session 4.
