Originally from New York, Steve then moved to Florida, then San Diego, CA and finally to Portland. Now officially having inhabited all four corners of the country, he is excited to be a part of and explore the Pacific Northwest.
He has Bachelor’s of Arts in History and Adolescent Education and is a certified teacher grades 7-12 in New York and California. He has worked at the North Carolina Outward Bound School for two years leading 20-28 day canoe expeditions for at-risk youth. He also had the opportunity to teach at an awesome middle school in San Diego, CA as an on-site substitute teacher for the 2017-2018 school year.
Steve is very passionate about experiential learning–especially using the wilderness setting to teach leadership, self-reliance, teamwork, and environmental stewardship. Additionally, he is passionate about creating physically and emotionally safe spaces where equity is emphasized, diversity is celebrated, and youth feel safe stepping out of their comfort zones.
In his free time, he enjoys paddling (canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding), hiking, and backpacking. He also enjoy singing, playing the piano, and attending concerts!
His favorite quote: “There is more in you than you know, and if you could be made to see it, perhaps, for the rest of your life you will be unwilling to settle for less.” – Kurt Hahn
