John Halseth retired from The Standard in 2013 after 29 years, where he worked as Policy Administration Director in Employee Benefits. Prior to The Standard, he worked for the Oregon Department of Education where he worked directly with deaf adolescents at the Oregon State School for the Deaf.
John and his husband Robin received the BRO Fighting Spirit Award in 2010 for their long time support and dedication to the work of Basic Rights Oregon, where he served on the Board of Directors for the past two years. In 2013, he received the Equity Foundation Award for his ongoing work to bring trans-inclusive healthcare to his former employer, The Standard. John has also served on the interim Advisory Committee for the Q Center, and was on the Speakers Bureau of Oregon United for Marriage. He is a long time supporter of social justice issues including LGBTQ rights, the freedom to marry, and advocating for transgender rights. John lives in NE Portland with his husband Robin, and is also a big fan of the Portland Timbers.
