Position Overview:

This Lead Site Instructor is responsible for planning and teaching sequenced lessons in classroom and other school settings for up to 15 youth, assisting the Site Supervisor in program management, and supporting site staff in developing engaging curriculum. The Lead Site Instructor will strive to achieve youth development outcomes by engaging program participants in academic enrichment

and support, creative arts, active recreation, community building, service learning, and leadership activities.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Directs instruction of participants in a before and after school program setting while maintaining program expectations and behavior management with small groups up to 15 program participants and large groups as a team for up to 60 program participants.
  2. Assist Site Supervisor with program facilitation and administrative functions.
  3. Creates project-based learning activities from various resources and active engagement of participants in learning, and provides on-going support for site instructors in executing the same.
  4. Gives feedback and support to staff and reviews their curriculum in order to guide and develop the staff.

 

Other Job Duties:

 

  • Understands and follows Office of Child Care licensing policies and support Site Supervisor in maintaining site/program to comply with state licensing standards.
  • Actively Collaborates with the team on program planning, communication, behavior management, and overall site success as well as across site teams to support the success of the program.
  • Submits written lesson plans, service learning plans and supply needs.
  • Works within school policies, confidentiality requirements and understand behavioral referral system.
  • Develops positive working relationships with participants, families and school staff.
  • Acts as a role model positive youth development practices, youth-adult partnerships and mentoring.
  • Participates in recruitment and retention of program participants.
  • Participates in outreach to families and coordinate family engagement activities.
  • Organizes and attends field trips in Portland and surrounding areas.
  • Attends Camp Fire meetings and events.
  • Supports the mission, purpose and leadership of Camp Fire; projects a positive image of Camp Fire.
  • Commits to outside planning hours each week.
  • Participates in occasional evening events.
  • Ensures policies and practices are followed that lead to safe and successful program experiences for all participants and staff.
  • Acts as a role model for enjoyment, integrity and dedication in the work of Camp Fire… we are in it for the kids!
  • Supports the mission, purpose and leadership of Camp Fire and projects a positive image of Camp Fire.
  • Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with coworkers, volunteers, parents, and contractors; including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
  • Respectfully takes direction from supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree from four-year college or university; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • This position also requires a valid Oregon Food Handler’s card and First Aid & CPR certification and OCC Basic Safety Set Trainings, plus >15 hours of approved professional development per license year.
  • Oregon Central Background Registry; Step 8 or above on the Oregon Step Registry preferred.
  • Previous experience instructing in an afterschool program environment that involves solo teaching, outcome-based lesson planning and current best practices in youth development, and behavior management for students.
  • Working knowledge of youth development and programming, including best practices in mentoring, academic enrichment, youth adult partnerships, life-skills, and leadership development is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Job requires specialized computer skills. Must be adept at using various applications including database, spreadsheet, report writing, project management, graphics, word processing, presentation creation/editing, communicate by e-mail and use scheduling software.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • A valid insurable Driver’s License is required.

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time and maintain satisfactory energy levels for duration of programming

Salary and Benefits:

  • Compensation: $14-$15.50 hourly
