PORTLAND — The Camp Fire Columbia board of directors has named Emily Gilliland as chief executive officer, effective Dec. 1.

For the past 18 years, Gilliland has served in diverse leadership and management roles, most recently as the executive director of HandsOn Network, a Points of Light enterprise that inspires, equips and mobilizes volunteer commitment and community impact in 220 communities across the United States.

staff-emilygGilliland’s career has focused on education, leadership development and community service.  As executive director of HandsOn Network for the past two years, she was responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of resources to support organizational development, programming, branding and communications within a vast network of volunteer organizations in the United States and around the globe.  Collectively, the network engages 1.8 million volunteers in community service efforts.

As executive director of Oregon Campus Compact from 2008 to early 2013, Gilliland led the organization through significant change to develop and implement a new vision for advancing civic engagement and service learning in higher education. During her tenure, she worked with All Hands Raised, the Portland-area partnership that works on “cradle to career” collective-impact efforts in education, to develop an AmeriCorps VISTA program that matches college students with ninth graders to support their academic achievement and community engagement. “Ninth Grade Counts” is now one of the longest standing collaboratives of All Hands Raised.
