Xploregon Teen Leadership Program
The Xploregon Teen Leadership Program is a 12-day Road Trip for HS youth to explore a variety of breath-taking Pacific Northwest landscapes and locations through adventure, leadership, and service. Trips are open to youth entering or in high school Fall 2013, ages 14 to 17.
Xploregon encourages teens to leave their comfort zone, confront their fears and experience personal growth through leadership and teamwork. Over the course of the trip, youth partner with leading community-based organizations on service projects that create a direct and positive impact on their community and fellow citizens. Xploregon youth are challenged on a daily basis with hands-on learning and engage in reflection and self-discovery in a caring, inclusive, and safe group culture. In addition, youth participate in adventure activities such as whitewater rafting, surfing and rock climbing!
Xploregon can also help youth receive school credit for service hours completed during the trip; many schools have given from .5 to 1 credit. Camp Fire Columbia will work directly with schools to help facilitate credit acquisition.
Beyond school credit, an Xploregon Trip can help youth feel more confident, capable and prepared for the next school year and years beyond that. Through surveys and evaluation we have learned that Xploregon participants have demonstrated increases in these areas:
- Social and Environmental Awareness
- Compassion for others
What teens have to say about Xploregon:
“Xploregon is a great way to teach youth about what is going on in other communities because it gives teens the opportunity to get outside of that bubble and see what is going on.” – Brandon, Xploregon Alumni
“I think Xploregon is cool because it gets teens out in the real world, working with real people and solving real issues.“ - Jasmine
“Definitely a life changing experience.” - Mickell
“A really big turning point in a lot of peoples lives.“- Justin
“One of the most amazing experiences I have ever had.” - Nathan
