Today is the last official day of Gilbert Heights Camp Fire SUN program! Thank you to everyone who supported us our first year at GH! We can’t wait for next year. Also – A special thank you and good luck to Mr. Sterling who has a new adventure! You will be missed!
Gilbert Heights kids had SO MUCH FUN at last night’s Camp Fire Centennial Celebration! We had a GREAT TIME learning and performing the flash mob dance and participating in the activities. One more week of after school program and then it’s time for a break – come see us for summer lunch!
Earlier this year a group of five 5th graders got together to write and film a short movie about the Justice System! This movie was entered into the YouthFILM Festival held on May 6th at the Hollywood Theater. The movie was awarded 2nd place. GREAT JOB MINUTE MEN MOVIES!!!

We have been working on several projects during the first few weeks of the third term. Katie’s class is learning about music. They have been listening to Chopin and painting to express the different moods of the music in lines and color. We have some genuine artists on our hands here at Mill Park!! Sophie’s class is learning about gardening and playing basket ball. They’ve already planted some peas! Maybe when they’ve grown Lisa’s class will be able to use them in their cooking! Lisa’s class started the term by making their own aprons out of old t-shirts! Can you imagine? They are ready to start creating specialty dishes starting with frozen yogurt. All three classes have been working on their project to display at Camp Fire’s big birthday bash in May. We are ready to celebrate!
Free Orchards made flat stanleys , and they sent them to people who took pictures all around the world. We have received many of them back.
Free Orchards had 16 participants go to Camp Namanu on their overnight Spring Break trip. We had lots of fun, boating, rock climbing, and many other fun activities.,
Every class at Mill Park has been working on their service learning projects. We went on a field trip to Skate World and ate the most delicious food at our ESL potluck! (more...)
We have been enjoying the beautiful weather we have been having outside during our daily free time! It’s nice on our normally rainy Oregon days to get outside and run around a bit. Thank you for taking the time to discover more about Free Orchards & what we’re up to!
Free Orchards Elementary held a Turkey Trot for Camp Fire Participants. During the month of November we practiced stretching and running, and learned about personal bests. Then we had our Turkey Trot where our winners were able to take home a turkey to their family! Everyone did a great job and we all had lots of fun!
Thank You to Board member Justin Berl Justin came to Free Orchards to teach us about Hanukkah! All of the participants had a wonderful time learning about latkes and playing with the dreidels that Justin brought for us. Justin helped us understand Hanukkah and to have a greater appreciation for other’s celebratory traditions. Thanks Justin we hope you can come visit again sometime soon! All of us at Free Orchards
Here at free Orchard we have had a great week reading Dr.Seus,playing tether ball, making up skits and making cards for eachother. We are really excited to have our first monthy birthday party. We are celebrating with ice cream, singing and the holky polky.
At Mill Park this term, kids are playing team-building games, making crafts, and learning about their sight, hearing, and sense of smell and touch. And, of course, doing their homework! (more...)
