Kara is originally from San Jose, California and recently moved to Portland to attend Portland State University. She wanted to immerse herself in an organization that was doing great work for the local community, and is thrilled to join the team at Camp Fire Columbia. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, camping, endless mimosa brunches, gardening, and spending time with her boys (her husband and two cats).
Kara spent six years working in land conservation in Northern California. She assisted in the implementation of a study examining wildlife movement within a 9-square mile study-area in Sonoma County to help evaluate and improve habitat connectivity. Kara has also helped in the work to protect 8,500 acres of second and old growth redwood and Douglas fir forest in the Santa Cruz mountains, and executed the first sustainable timber harvest for the organization where she worked.
Kara holds her BA in Environmental Studies, with an emphasis on conservation and restoration, and her minor in Biology. She is working towards a Masters of Environmental Management at Portland State University.
