This will be Denise’s fourth school year serving the Cedaroak Park Community in West Linn. She is proud of the community that she and the Camp Fire staff have built, and feels very at home with the Cedaroak Camp Fire kids. Denise grew up in the Midwest and attended Iowa State University, where she majored in Studio Art and Art History. She began working at summer camp at the age of 16 as a counselor. In her teens Denise continued to work during the summers with various camps around Iowa.
During college, she had the opportunity to connect her love of traveling with her passion for youth development. Denise provided youth programming in Japan and England with Camp Adventure, an organization focused on providing summer camps for children of military families. After college, she was hired at the Iowa 4H Camp as the Waterfront Program Director and the following year worked at Camp Namanu in the same position. Denise also traveled to Namibia in 2013 with the Peace Corps. During her time spent in Namibia she provided youth counseling and programming for teens in her village. In her free time Denise explores the Pacific Northwest, and is in constant awe of its beauty
