Founded in 1910, our comprehensive program starts with early intervention at the elementary level, bridges the learning gap for middle school, and helps students thrive and plan for bright futures during high school. During the school year, Camp Fire works in partnership with dozens of schools in the Metro Area. During the summer months, we offer summer camps in the Portland metro area and at our beautiful 552-acre camp, Camp Namanu, bordered by the vibrant Sandy River and presided over by century old trees. Our programs directly serve over 4,000 kids ages 5-18 each year across an eight-county area, including the greater Portland metro region. Camp Fire Columbia helps serve an additional 11,000 children and families annually through partnerships and special projects.
Bridges Unit Leads are responsible for implementing the day to day activities for 6-9th grades, including leadership activities, team-building, indoor/outdoor games, crafts, literacy activities, songs, snacks, and field trips. Bridges Counselors engages with young leaders (6th-9th grades) in creative and energetic camp programming designed to teach them leadership skills that can lead to future employment with Camp Fire. Leads and assists in delivery of pre-planned activities and field trips with support of other counselors and staff. Minimum Age 21. Environmental education/Outdoor Recreation experience and/or Lifeguard certification experience a plus. Typical schedule is Monday-Friday; schedule varies by capacity and staffing needs.
Essential Job Functions:
- Person in charge of the facilitating the Bridges program.
- Attend pre-season training and lead sections or groups of pre-camp training.
- Assist Day Camp Director in planning and booking of field trips and special guests.
- Insures the delivery of pre-planned activities and field trips with support of other staff.
- Schedules, mentors, and evaluates young leaders to observe and/or assist with a variety of age groups.
- Engages with young leaders in creative and energetic camp programming based on weekly themes.
- Provides excellent communication to Bridges staff, campers, parents, and other site staff.
- Collaborates with Site Director and other sit staff.
- Keeps records as needed and required.
- Creates a positive experience/environment to promote confidence, self-awareness, and tools for life-long learning.
- Assists in managing delivery of snacks and to assure that kids with special dietary needs are addressed.
Bridges Unit Lead will provide delivery of high quality programming, facilitates curriculum, policy and procedures, policies, and safety standards. Bridges Unit Lead will interact with counselors, parents, campers, special guests and field trip representatives to ensure high levels of customer service, communication, program quality, and safety.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of safety and programming principles is strongly preferred.
- A valid insurable Driver’s License is preferred. Minimum Age for insurability purposes is 21, if driving a Camp Fire vehicle.
- This position requires a valid Oregon Food Handler’s card and First Aid & CPR certification.
- Lifeguard, environmental ed./outdoor rec. experience/certifications a plus.
- Open to receiving feedback and making on-going program adjustments.
- Ability to work in teams and independently.
- Ability to lead and motivate others.
- Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time and maintain satisfactory energy levels for duration of programming.

Salary and Benefits:
- Compensation: $14 per hour, 35-40 hours per week.
- Earned PTO for sick leave.
