During the school year, Camp Fire works in partnership with dozens of schools in the Metro Area. During the summer months, we offer summer camps in the Portland metro area and at our beautiful 552-acre camp, Camp Namanu, bordered by the vibrant Sandy River and presided over by century old trees. Our programs directly serve over 4,000 kids ages 5-18 each year across an eight-county area, including the greater Portland metro region. Camp Fire Columbia helps serve an additional 11,000 children and families annually through partnerships and special projects.

 

Position Overview:

Assistant Site Directors work under the supervision of the Site Director. Asst. Site Directors aide in managing the day to day operations of a specific site, including staff supervision, scheduling, logistical support, field trips, providing excellent customer service. Assistant Site Directors are responsible for assisting in providing unit coordination and management for all aspects of camp units at one Day Camp location by performing the following duties. Site Directors interact with campers, parents, special guests and field trip representatives to ensure high levels of customer service, communication, program quality, and adherence to site budget.

The Assistant Site Director is Person-In-Charge in the absence of the Site Manager. In addition, they will provide program support and will provide excellent communications between the managers, staff, campers, and parents. Engages with campers in creative and energetic camp programming based on weekly themes. Leads and assists in delivery of pre-planned activities and field trips with support of other staff. Typical schedule is Monday-Friday; schedule varies by capacity and staffing needs.  Min age is 21.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Pre-season assistance with hiring and preparing curriculum binders.
  • Person-in-Charge (PIC) in the absence of the Site Director.
  • Attend pre-season training and lead sections or groups of pre-camp training.
  • Pre-season planning and booking of field trips and special guests.
  • Lead and assist in delivery of pre-planned activities and field trips with support of other staff.
  • Assist in the management of day-to-day operations of day camp location.
  • Engage with campers in creative and energetic camp programming based on weekly themes.
  • Acts as liaison with site landlord/ building representatives.
  • Maintains cleanliness of facility.
  • Keeps records as needed and required.
  • Assists with coordinating unit staff’s time off for each session.
  • Ensures that all food and equipment requisitions are submitted and returned in a timely manner.

 

Relationships:

Assistant Site Directors supervise camp site staff to ensure delivery of high quality programming, enforce Day Camp procedures, policies, and safety standards. Assistant Site Directors interact with parents, special guests and field trip representatives to ensure high levels of customer service, communication, program quality, and adherence to site budget.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and/or some college preferred; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of safety and programming principles is strongly preferred.
  • A valid insurable Driver’s License is preferred. Minimum Age for insurability purposes is 21, if driving a Camp Fire vehicle.
  • This position requires a valid Oregon Food Handler’s card and First Aid & CPR certification.
  • Lifeguard, environmental ed./outdoor rec. experience/certifications a plus.
  • Open to receiving feedback and making on-going program adjustments.
  • Ability to facilitate and work in teams and independently.
  • Ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time and maintain satisfactory energy levels for duration of programming.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Compensation: $15 per hour, 35-40 hours per week
  • Earned PTO for sick leave
